Having opened up at Coachella last year, AC/DC has since travelled all over the world to promote their latest album, Rock or Bust. Considering it's been over a year since the band started their epic tour, it has been quite the year for the Aussie rockers. While the aformentioned changes in the band's lineup has certainly affected the band and their fans alike, this has in no way affected the Rock or Bust tour's relentless ability to sell out in venues across the globe. Take for example their Germany shows, which within 77 minutes of on-sale time sold an impressive 300,000 tickets, breaking the world record for "number of sold tickets within the shortest timespan", adding to that, in Switzerland the band broke the record for duration to a "sold out" shouw, selling over 40,000 tickets in only 6 minutes!
Formed in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young, it would be forty years before Malcolm finally retired and he is now preceded by his nephew Stevie Young. In the last 40 years, musicians have come and gone, and so the current line-up, alongside guitarists Stevie and Angus Young, consist of Cliff Williams on bass, Guns "n" Roses frontman Axl Rose (temporarily) and drummer Chris Slade. AC/DC fans may well wonder about long-time drummer Phill Rudd and lead vocalist Brian Johnson. While, the former drummer is currently under house arrest for various drug charges, long-time vocalist Brian Johnson was forced to leave the band due to health complications regarding his hearing.
While we've touched upon Johnson's departure and replacement, the truth of the matter is that Johnson's decision to leave the band, (and conserve his hearing), couldn't have been more difficult for the singer! Having opened up in a statement to his fans, Johnson revealed that he'd been undergoing a number of examinations before finally deciding to call it quits. The story fits when catering in the fact that the band were forced to postpone a number of shows earlier this year, apparently for this very reason. With Johnson writing in his statement, "My doctors have told me that I can continue to record in studios and I intend to do that." there's always the hope that this might not be the last we see of the legendary rocker. Of course, as mentioned before Axl Rose is indeed taking his place for the remainder of this tour, but seeing as the band have expressed this is only a temporary replacement, perhaps future shows will see a number of guest vocalists taking on the mantle Johnson has left behind!
