This Australian band was formed in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. While both members were the only ones to have never left the band in over forty years, Malcolm finally had to retire and is now preceded by his nephew Stevie Young. Other musicians have come and gone, but the current line-up now consists of Cliff Williams, lead singer Axl Rose and Chris Slade. Long-time AC/DC fans may well wonder about long-time drummer, Phill Rudd, however due to certain legal troubles Rudd has been unable to perform. While long-time vocalist Brian Johnson was forced to leave the band after continuing to perform with the band put his hearing in dire jeopardy. As for the band name, Margaret Young pointed out these initials that could be read on a sewing machine. Standing for alternating current/direct current electricity, the acronyms stand as a perfect representation of the electrifying music that the brothers create. Throughout the years, AC/DC has been considered both as a hard rock and heavy metal band, but the five members prefer to be classified as a rock and roll music group. With AC/DC having now released seventeen studio albums, selling over two hundred million records worldwide there’s no doubt that they’re as great live as they are on record. With their recent album, Rock or Bust, clocking in at just over thirty-four minutes, critics have indeed been forgiving of the duration, with Trucking’s Andy Stewart saying of the album “Short, but definitely sweet, this long-awaited new album from Australia’s (Scotland’s?) biggest band contains a raft of excellent riffs, signature screeching and rock ’n roll boogie-woogie rhythms.” Of course, critics weren’t the only one to flock to the new album, with it becoming the sixth most pre-ordered studio album of 2014! So if you want to listen to AC/DC’s latest hits, be sure to attend one of their unforgettable concerts by purchasing your AC/DC tickets here and now at Ticketbis!

AC/DC has been active for many years now, but it wasn’t until the eighties, when they released Back in Black that they reached international success and made their first mark on history. This record sold over seventy thousand copies in just the first week and has become the all-time best-selling album from AC/DC. Considering the original line-up of the band, Back in Black, actually came about as a tribute to their former lead singer Bon Scott. At the beginning of 1980, the band actually began working on the album, however in February, Scott died due to what was later diagnosed as “acute alcohol poisoning”. While there have been a number of conspiracy theories surrounding Scott’s death, the point is that his death affected the band deeply. In fact, it was Scott’s parents that insisted the band should carry on and not quit, citing it would be what Bon Scott would have wanted.

Of course, as history shows it was because of their dedication to Scott’s memory, the band created their most celebrated album! After various considerations, including the likes of ex-Moxy Buzz Shearman, former Back Street Crawler Terry and Slade’s Noddy Holder, the band finally settled on ex-Georgie singer Brian Johnson. As Angus Young recollects “I remember the first time I had ever heard Brian’s (Johnnson) name was from Bon. Bon had mentioned that he had been in England once touring with a band and he had mentioned that Brian had been in a band called Geordie and had said ‘Brian Johnson, he was a great rock and roll singer in the style of Little Richard.’ And that was Bon’s big idol, Little Richard. I think when he saw Brian at that time, to Bon it was ‘Well he’s a guy that knows what rock and roll is all about.’ He mentioned that to us in Australia. I suppose when we decided to continue, Brian was the first name that Malcolm and myself came up with, so we said we should and if we can find him.” Johnson’s contribution has been steadfast ever since and his time with the band has since come to be known as the Brian Johnson era of AC/DC.

Kicking off the era with a bang, the band quickly gained popularity in the following years, with their follow-up album, For Those About to Rock We Salute You, proving to be a hit with critics! Featuring hit tracks “Let’s Get It Up” and “For Those About to Rock”, the album stood as a prelude of things to come, and even Rolling Stone magazine had some choice things! Praising AC/DC’s expert songwriting, Rolling Stone’s Kurt Loder wrote “All ten ten tunes are aimed straight at the group’s testosterone-plagued audience, but the music and lyrics transcend mere calculation.” Going on to say, “what you’ve got here is one unbeatable rock & roll band.”!

This is a band that must be seen live, so don’t hesitate and get a hold of your AC/DC tickets here at Ticketbis!
