The band is formed by nine South Korean young girls aged between 22 and 24 and was created due to a S.M. Entertainment talent programme, that planned to debut an only-girl group. After several castings and trainees Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun which were the ones who were selected to be part of this famous band called Girls’ Generation. Unfortunately Jessica has left the band and Girls' Generation is currently formed by only eight members. 

This band released its first studio album in 2007 called “Girls' Generation”, which became very popular in South Korea. Two years later the girls announced a Tour to support their latest record.
