Leicester City

Leicester City Football Club was formed in 1884 and is one of the biggest clubs in English football. They played at their previous ground Filbert Street for one-hundred and eleven years until moving in 2002 to what is now called the King Power Stadium. With the sacking of Nigel Pearson during the summer break, Leicester fans feared that they were on a one-way street back to the Championship this season. It is also safe to say that the appointment of ex-Greece manager Claudia Ranieri was far from popular, producing criticism and ridicule in equal measures. However, the Italian has transformed the club, immediately dispelling any fear of a relegation battle and doing it with the entertaining and attacking football Foxes fans enjoyed under the latter period of Pearson's reign. While people continue to talk of challenging for a European place, Ranieri has kept cool, continuing to emphasise that Leicester's priority is survival and security rather than trying to take on the giants at their own game. Leicester's sub-plot is that they have found themselves with a prolific English goalscorer in the form of Jamie Vardy. The style under Ranieri suits Vardy's hunger for goal and fans and neutrals alike will be hoping that this former non-league player can continue to find form and form a key part of Roy Hodgson's 2016 squad.

The Foxes have some impressive silverware to their name but have never managed to finish first in the top flight – their highest ever finish was second in what was then known as Division One in 1929. However they do hold the joint-highest record for second-tier titles, after having topped the Second Division six times and winning the Championship title in 2014. Leicester have lifted the League Cup on three occasions, the last time being in 2000. Throughout their history they have always fallen short of achieving an FA Cup title, being runners up in 1949, 1961, 1963 and 1969.

Leicester play in royal blue and have done for most of their history but the iconic fox featured on their emblem, included because Leicester is known for foxes and fox hunting, was only introduced in 1948. The club have a long association with crisp manufacturer Walkers and the company were their sponsor from 1987 until 2001. Grab your Leicester tickets now!

Founded in 1884 by a group of former Wyggeston School students, the club eventually joined the Football Association in 1890. Then known as Leicester Fosse, due to financial difficulties the team were forced to disband after the league was resumed after the First World War. However the club a reformed as Leicester City Football Club and enjoyed moderate success in the 1920s, before a downturn in performances in the 1930s – a decade they finished in the Second Division.

1949 saw City´s first ever FA Cup Final appearance, although they lost 3-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers. 1957-1969 is widely considered to be the club´s most successful period, representing the longest time they have stayed in the top flight. Leicester tickets will be in high demand, after the Foxes were promoted to the Premier League after well-fought 2013-2014 season, which saw them finish as Championship title-holders.
