Leicester City Tickets

Leicester City

Leicester City Football Club was formed in 1884 and actually stood as one of the biggest clubs outside the Premier League, and there's little doubt that when Leicester City were promoted from the Championship back in 2014, many a Leicester fans were left ecstatic! Considering their history, the team can boast playing at their previous ground Filbert Street for an impressive 111 years until Filbert Street's eventual closure forced the team to move in 2002, to what is now called the King Power Stadium. Leicester City's 2016 transition: From zeros to heroes

Despite Pearson bringing the the Foxes their celebrated promotion, a number of PR incidents and scandals eventually lead to Leicester City boardmembers sacking Nigel Pearson during the summer break, suffice to say, once again Leicester fans feared that they were on a one-way street back to the Championship. Considering the team's current position, it's actually hard to imagine that the appointment of ex-Chelsea manager Claudia Ranieri was a far from popular choice, producing criticism and ridicule in equal measures. However, the Italian transformed the club immensely, dispelling any fears of relegation. In fact, it has been noted by fans critics and fans alike that Leicester's performance throughout the season, remained consistently high and despite many fans beginning to talk of European championships (let alone a Premier League title), Ranieri kept his cool throughout the season, emphasising above all else that Leicester's priority is survival and security. As with all great teams, Leicester's key member came in the form of prolific English goalscorer Jamie Vardy. Interestingly, the style and tactics that Ranieri has employed for the teams, suits Vardy's hunger for goals to a T, and fans and neutrals alike, are looking to Vardy to be a key player for England's selection.

Leicester's past legacy

Oddly enough, despite their historic time away from the Premier League, The Foxes can still boast impressive silverware to their name, now adding their first Premeir League title win to the mix. Prior to 2016, their highest ever finish was second in what was then known as Division One back in 1929. They also hold the joint-highest record for second-tier titles, after having topped the Second Division an impressive 6 times and winning the Championship title in 2014. Leicester have lifted the League Cup on 3 occasions, the last time being in 2000. Throughout their history they have always fallen short of achieving an FA Cup title, being runners up in 1949, 1961, 1963 and 1969.

The rich history of Leicester City

Founded in 1884 by a group of former Wyggeston School students, the club eventually joined the Football Association in 1890. Leicester City's distinctive royal blue kit, has been a constant for most of their history, however the iconic fox featured on their emblem, was actually introduced in 1948, due to Leicester's history regarding foxes and fox hunting. Then known as Leicester Fosse, due to financial difficulties the team were forced to disband after the league was resumed after the First World War. However, ever unperturbed the club reformed as Leicester City Football Club and enjoyed a moderate level of success in the '20s, before a downturn in performances saw the following decade spent mostly in Second Division. 1949 saw Leicester City's first ever FA Cup Final appearance, although they lost 3-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers. 1957-1969 is widely considered to be the club´s most successful period, representing the longest time they have stayed in top flight football. The club have long been associated with crisp manufacturers Walkers, and the company were their sponsors from 1987 until 2001, when they were bought by Thai travel retail group King Power. King Power Stadium: All you need to know

Originally called Walkers Stadium, Leicester's decision to move to the stadium in 2008 was originally seen as a dangerous move as the team fell in to relegation at the time of purchase! COnsidering that the stadium's construction put the team into £30 million worth of debt! Of course, all financial woes soon subsided when the team was acquired by billionaire Thai Vichai Raksriaksorn, and now King Power Stadium can boast some of the best facilities in the area! Featuring four seperate stands: Marks Electrical Family Stand (North), The Air East Stand (East), The Spion Kop (South) and Upton Steel Stand (West), there is also an Away section between Marks Electrical Family Stand (North) and Air Asia Stand (East), and all reports of the section seem to agree that the stadium's atmosphere is certainly worth the journey! As far as nearby waterholes, the Holiday Inn Express' Soaring Eagle Spur Steak & Grill, can't be any more ideal with the pub situated a minute away from the stadium!
